Chapter 1

Thirty years ago, two friends started their journey together. Aakash Singh Raizada and Shashi Gupta…. friends forever. After being cheated by their business partners and losing their fortune, the Raizadas had to move out of their mansion. They relocated to a neighbouring colony where they rented a small house. The Guptas lived right next door.
Friendship between Aakash and Shashi had been an instant hit as both shared the same interests. Both were of the same age and spent most of their time together. And in no time they were known as ‘the inseparables’ in that neighborhood. As the bond between the boys was getting stronger so was the closeness between their families. Things were fine until the boys turned 17.But on an unfortunate day, a fire accident at the garment factory took the lives of their fathers, leaving the families in despair.
Shashi’s mother couldn’t overcome the grief and soon she too joined her husband, leaving Shashi Gupta behind.
On the other hand, Devyani Singh Raizada accepted the fate and decided to live for her son.The compensation which she got from the factory management helped her to maintain the family. She not only took care of Aakash but also welcomed Shashi into her family.
At the age of 18 the boys passed their higher secondary and took up small jobs in a company to support their mother. As business was in his blood, Aakash always wanted to start one.But since he neither had the money nor the experience required, he just waited for the right time. Both of them worked really hard and when it was time for them to get married, Devyani found them suitable brides. Aarthi for Aakash and Sakshi for Shashi. Both were from the same village and were friends since their childhood.
People who met them for the first time assumed them to be sisters. Such was the love between them and this helped them to keep the family united.
After a year Aarthi gave birth to a baby girl, Anjali who became the apple of everyone’s eyes. When Anjali turned one, Aakash decided to take the next big step of his life. And he didn’t want to take it without Shashi, his best friend. With dreams in their eyes and hope in their hearts the family moved to Delhi to start a new life.
They rented a two bedroom house and opened a new clothing store which was named as GR cloth emporium. It took two years for the business to get established and that was when Aarthi gave birth to a baby boy.
Sakshi, who loved kids took care of the little boy as if he was her own and named him Arnav. Though Sakshi was longing to be a mother she diverted her thoughts by helping Aarthi in bringing up Anjali and Arnav. The kids became very attached to her and used to call her Maa and Shashi as Babuji, while they addressed their own parents as Mamma and Papa.
After three years Sakshi’s wait finally came to an end. She was blessed with the most beautiful baby girl. The cute little angel who brought so much happiness into Sakshi’s life was named, Kushi.
On the day of Kushi’s arrival, while five year old Anjali was playing with the tiny fingers of the new born, three year old Arnav just watched the baby in the cradle with his big brown eyes. He had never seen a new born and initially he didn’t understand how to react.
But as he kept looking at the baby, a smile beamed on his face. He thought that now he got a new baby doll to play with and that thought sat very well with him. He instantly liked that cooing baby who is his new toy and extended his hand to touch her. Right at that moment, all of a sudden, Kushi started crying and this made Arnav to pull back his hand.
As Aarthi understood that the baby was hungry, she lifted Kushi from the cradle and gave her to Sakshi. She also asked everyone to leave the room saying that it was time to feed the baby.
Firstly, Arnav didn’t like the way Sakshi was holding the baby close to her heart as according to him, that place belonged to him. And secondly, he was asked to go out of Sakshi’s room. Things like this never happened to him, and since they happened now with the baby’s entry,he started crying, saying that he wouldn’t leave Sakshi.
Sakshi and Aarthi explained to Arnav that the baby was hungry and needs to be fed.But Arnav was reluctant to move from there. So Aarthi lifted the crying Arnav and took him out of the room. But he got out of her hold and came back running to Sakshi. Sakshi ensured him that he could come back when the baby is fed and sent him away with Aarthi. That was the moment when little Arnav felt that the baby came only to separate him from his Maa. Had it not been for that baby, his Maa would never ask him to leave her room. And as that thought took root in his head, he instantly disliked the baby.
Arnav was very much attached to Sakshi and felt that he was getting less attention from her because of the new addition to the family. Sakshi, who understood every expression of Arnav, noticed this and did her best to balance her time with the kids. Aarthi helped her in this and as days passed,Arnav slowly understood that he has to share his Maa with Kushi. Though he didn’t like it at all, he accepted it.
Two years later, Sakshi gave birth to Rishi. And while Sakshi became busy taking care of Rishi, Kushi got attached to Aarthi. She copied Anjali and started calling Aarthi as Mamma and Aakash as Papa. And the couple became very fond of her. Kushi liked to play with Anjali and Arnav and of everything, she wanted to hold her little brother in her tiny hands. But wasn’t allowed to do so as she wasn’t big enough.
Kushi didn’t like the fact that Arnav was given all privileges by Sakshi to lift Rishi while she was restricted from doing so.And that was the moment when little Kushi assumed that her mother loved Arnav more than her. And she didn’t like it at all.
As the kids kept growing, Aakash and Shashi started expanding their business. They opened multiple branches of their showrooms across the city and bought a big house in a posh locality. The complete family shifted to the new house which had 5 bedrooms. Anjali and Kushi shared a bedroom while the boys shared the other one. Kushi loved Anjali and never used to go against her word. She always wanted to please Anjali and make her smile with her antics.
On the other hand,Arnav and Rishi also shared a great bond. Arnav was Rishi’s role model and Rishi loved to follow Arnav’s footsteps. Arnav also used to guide Rishi as if he was his own younger brother.
Though this bedroom separation gave rise to Girls vs Boys concept, the boys loved their Anjali Di. Anjali was the sweetest of all and being the eldest of the kids, she took care of the rest and monitored them. She never showed any discrimination between her own brother and Sakshi’s kids. She loved them all equally.
Each one of the kids loved Anjali soo much that they wanted to prove to the rest that they were the closest to their Anjali Di. However, Kushi always used to win the battle by winning Anjali’s heart with her antics. On the other hand, Arnav used to never bother about this as he knew very well that his Di loves him the most.Though Arnav and Kushi played together, when it came to sharing the love of their moms or Anjali..they were jealous of each other.
And as time passed, this jealousy only kept growing with them.
