Chapter 22

Hearing those four words, for an instant, Kushi didn’t understand how to react. Motivating herself, “Kushi…don’t be afraid… you have been practicing this the whole night… now is the moment…don’t take a back step…this is YOUR battle and YOU HAVE TO WIN THIS. Just tell him whatever you have planned to “, thought Kushi as she took a deep breath to start her speech.
“Actually….I want to….”, she stopped talking, seeing Rishi at the door of the porch.
“Sorry to disturb.Came to look for a phone”, said Rishi entering the porch.
“No problem”, replied Abhay, waving his hand in the air.
As Rishi started searching for the phone here and there, Kushi got irritated because of the interruption. He lifted the cushion in one of chairs saying, “Where is it??”, hearing which, “Can’t you take care of your phone, Rishi”, asked an annoyed Kushi, looking seriously at him.
“Yes I can. But for your information,I’m not looking for my phone”, replied Rishi, as he pulled his sister from the chair in order to search for the phone.
“Then whose?”, asked Kushi who was thoroughly frustrated,
“Arnav’s”, came the reply.
“WHAT?”, said Kushi gaping at her brother.
“He roams around as if he is some Mr.Perfect….but look…he can’t even take care of his phone. Kept it somewhere and sent his chamcha to look for it. Why can’t he himself come…. Mr.Grumpy and his attitude…huh”, thought Kushi as her eyes scanned the area around in search of his phone.
Not finding the phone anywhere Rishi finally left from there and the conversation was resumed as Abhay said, ” You were saying something”.
Kushi took a deep breath and started, “Ya…. I was saying that… I want to.. “. But she couldn’t complete her sentence seeing Arnav at the porch door.
As the duo looked at each other, Abhay followed her gaze and found Arnav at the door.
Breaking the eye contact, Arnav turned towards Abhay saying, “I left my phone somewhere here”.
“Ya.. just a while ago her brother was here in search of it”, came the response from Abhay.
“Hmm..He couldn’t find it. Do you mind if I… “, asked Arnav, gesturing Abhay to get up from the swing.
” No no… please go ahead”, said Abhay, getting up from the swing.
As Arnav started looking for his phone, Kushi received a text on her phone, which read, “DID U TELL HIM”.
” DIDN’T EVEN GET A CHANCE TO TALK.THIS MEETING IS LIKE SOME DAILY SOAP. THERE IS NO PROGRESS IN THE STORY, BUT THE ADS ARE NEVER ENDING.ONE AFTER THE OTHER”, texted Kushi in response to her friends’ query.
“WHAT???”, came the second text from them not understanding what Kushi meant.
“NOTHING!!”, texted Kushi.
Arnav stayed there for 5 minutes searching everywhere for his phone. And on not finding it he said, ” It’s not here…I wonder where I kept it “, rubbing his chin with his fingers.
“Anyways you guys carry on”, he added giving a stare to Kushi. As he turned and took a step to leave from there, Kushi followed him silently. And as soon as he stepped out of the porch, she slammed the glass door behind him.
He heard the sound and turned back only to see her going towards Abhay and sitting in her chair.
“WHAT THE… is she that desperate to talk to him”, said Arnav as he gritted his teeth, staring at the duo.
Earlier when he saw them going towards the porch, he didn’t know what to do. He went into his room, closed the door and started thinking. As the phone in his hand caught his attention his lips curled into a naughty smile and keeping the phone in his dressing table drawer he walked out of his room. On seeing Rishi in the hallway, he called him and asked him to get his phone saying that he left it in the porch. And when Rishi came back saying that he couldn’t find the phone, he himself went to disturb Kushi and Abhay. He was successful in disturbing them twice and wasting 15 minutes of their precious time. But now.. there was nothing he could do. She closed the door and was talking something seriously with Abhay, seeing which Arnav’s temper mounted. He thumped the wall with his hand and walked into his room taking long strides.
On the other side of the glass door, Kushi quickly started her speech as soon as she settled in her chair.
“What I wanted to say is….” she paused looking here and there, trying to gather her courage.
As Abhay kept looking at her anticipating a positive response from her,” I DON’T WANT TO GET MARRIED”, blurted Kushi.
“WHAT!!”, he said as he jerked from his sitting position.
“Don’t take it the other way…it’s not about you. It’s just that as of now, I have no plans for marriage”, said Kushi trying to explain.
“Can I know the reason”, asked Abhay looking keenly at her.
“Yes!!I want to become a fashion designer. I want to do my Masters in Fashion designing and someday, I want to launch my own brand”, said Kushi, talking dreamily.
“How are these things related to your marriage”, asked Abhay, raising his doubt.
“OF COURSE they are related.I don’t want to get married till I fulfill my dreams”,replied Kushi.
“We don’t have to get married right now, Kushi. I’m in no rush for a wedding. We can get engaged and later when you are all set with your career…only then we can think about our wedding”, said Abhay, in a very convincing tone.
“NO!! It won’t work. I don’t want to get engaged and I don’t want to think about anything related to marriage till I see my brand in the fashion world . I need to focus on my goals…. and I don’t want any deviations in my life until I achieve them”, declared Kushi.
Understanding that she was quite serious about her career, “Okay…so how long do you think it will take for all this to happen”, asked Abhay.
“May be 3-4 years….hmmmmn….. may be 5-6….or it may even take 10 years… I really can’t predict it”, replied Kushi as she shrugged.
“Ooookay”, said Abhay as he got up from the swing and walked towards the railing. Standing there, he kept staring at the swimming pool while he was lost in some thoughts.Using that time frame, Kushi quickly texted her friends that she told him everything and is waiting for his response.
She waited eagerly for his response but since he didn’t seem to have any plans to put an end to his thoughts, Kushi resumed her speech saying, “So as I told you…. I really don’t know when I’ll be ready for a wedding, I want you to drop this proposal and get married to someone who is willing to marry you pretty soon”.
Abhay turned and smiled looking at Kushi. ” Forget about my marriage…. What do you think about yours? Do you have plans to get married after you fulfill your dreams??”, he asked on a lighter note.
“Of course I will. The day I’m content that I achieved my goals, I will get married”, came the firm reply from Kushi.
“Good!! Then I would like to wait till that day…… to marry you”, said Abhay as he crossed his hands against his chest.
“WHAT!!!!”, Kushi almost screamed as she was all set to faint hearing his declaration.
